Patrick Gwynne's iconic building on the eastern edge of the Serpentine in Hyde Park, houses the Serpentine Bar & Kitchen. Inspired by English country living, the restaurant is the perfect retreat for both Londoners and visitors alike. The Benugo managed, Serpentine Bar & Kitchen, located in the middle of lush Hyde Park, on the edge of the stunning Serpentine Lake, offers an ideal spot to enjoy a lazy weekend breakfast, a delicious family meal or a sunset cocktail.
Designed by Gwynne in the 1960s for Charles Forte (when it was called the Dell), the building has floor-to-ceiling windows affording uninterrupted views across the Serpentine.
The menu covers a variety of breakfast options - fruit juice, fresh coffee, cakes and delicious baked pastries. For a lite lunch and dinner - soup with crusty bread, seasonal salads, British classics like fish and chips, sandwiches, wood-fired pizzas and a few specials, such as sea bass with crushed potatoes and buttered spinach. Kids love the ice-cream cart by the entrance, while adults appreciate the Citröen van converted into a gin bar. If you fancy something 'to go', the small shop in the entrance serves takeaway sandwiches, smoothies, cakes and coffee, so you can craft the perfect picnic for the park or top up on sustenance after a hearty walk, gentle jog or cycle.
During the summer months, don't miss the juicy 8oz burgers (with all the trimmings) and hot dog BBQ and Gin Bar – perfect for a spontaneous meal. On a sunny day, the outdoor terrace is the place to be - to eat, drink, people watch or just to sit in peace, away from the hubbub, cocktail in hand, watching the sun go down.
