The annual Connaught Village Summer Festival usually takes place in the second half of June and, for one day only, the Connaught Street area is transformed into a magical, village ‘green’, befitting a traditional country fair.
From cup cakes to face painting and popcorn to crazy golf, there is always something for everyone – and for all ages, too.
Recent attractions have included racing cars, vintage fire engines, fairground rides, live opera, a marching brass band, Punch & Judy, hula hoop classes, T-shirt printing, street food, candy floss and ice cream, arts and crafts stalls, a treasure hunt and… a much-loved dog show with a celebrity judge.
The Festival generally starts at 2pm and most local retailers remain open until 8pm, offering fabulous in-store promotions and exclusive offers. The neighbourhood bars and restaurants also present special workshops and cooking demonstrations.
A full programme of events is available on the day. Visitors are courteously reminded to bring along some cash, since many stallholders may not be able to accept debit or credit card payments.
You’ll also need some coins to throw in the charity buckets, of course, as the Connaught Village Festival traditionally supports at least one good cause.
