A community favourite, Markus coffee has been a popular neighbourhood café and coffee supplier for almost 60 years.
The business was first established by Hungarian holocaust survivors, George and Eva Markus, back in 1957. Prior to their retirement, the couple channeled their unquestionable expertise to Mohammad Sarwar, a close friend who had worked for them since 1976.
Today, Mr Sarwar still runs the business and Markus Coffee offers a staggering 34 varieties of coffee beans from 13 different countries. The beans are roasted on the premises each day and passers-by are often lured in by the rich aroma of the world’s finest coffee.
Markus Coffee is certainly a friendly and relaxing place to enjoy a coffee break. Indeed, many locals schedule a pit-stop here on a daily basis, taking advantage of the outside seating when the weather permits.
Given the location, there have been several celebrity customers over the years, including the popular TV presenter Claudia Winkleman, and the iconic shoe designer Jimmy Choo.
A household name in this part of London, Markus Coffee supplies leading hotels and restaurants as well as regular, private customers, many of whom travel long distances to stock up with the shop’s famous Regent & Negresco blend.
