La Fromagerie, Moxon Street, Marylebone, London W1U 4EW

2-6 Moxon Street, Marylebone, London W1U 4EW

Part of a chain of two (the other is in Highbury), La Fromagerie is an independently owned cheese emporium, food store and café.

It has been a popular feature in Marylebone since 2002, when the Howard de Walden estate converted the site from a builder’s yard to a retail unit.

Patricia Michelson, founder and director of La Fromagerie, was quick to snap it up. She had grown up in Marylebone and immediately saw the potential.

For years, I’d hankered after a food shop with an eating area – and I’ve always loved Marylebone,’ she reveals.

My family moved here in the 1960s and the area has so much going for it – the parks, squares, schools, shops and restaurants. I know Marylebone and I feel at home here.’

Patricia knows her customers, too. She knows what they want – and how they’d like it presented. Indeed, some of her regulars don’t live in Marylebone but visit once a week because they enjoy it.

Even Jamie Oliver comes here for his cheese!

He shops with us most weekends,’ Patricia confirms. ‘He usually wants something for his Sunday supper. He’ll often bring one of his kids, too. I am immensely fond of Jamie and really admire what he has achieved.’
