Why not shake off your Christmas indulgence with a Friday night skate?! The Friday Night Skate is a free weekly skate in London, for all Londoners who love a bit of fresh air and love to skate. The meeting point is at the Duke of Wellington Arch, Hyde Park Corner. It’s a great opportunity to see London, as you whiz from Hyde Park Corner on an exhilarating two hour course, covering up to 10 - 12 miles.
Each week will take in a different route offering a fantastic way to get fit or fitter, meet fellow skate fans and to see the changing colours of the city throughout the year.
The Friday Night Skate is carefully organised into two skating ability routes, - blue for intermediates, who must be able to stop, turn and skate at a medium pace for up to 2 hours and black for advanced. These folk on the black route must be able to do everything required for the ‘blue’ route, as well as skate fast and have excellent stamina.
This, year round, weekly event attracts hundreds of regulars as well as ’newbies' who congregate at Hyde Park Corner for an amazing party on wheels….with music too! For some it’s all about the adrenalin and exercise. For others it’s a great way to meet like minded people and socialise.
If you are new to skating but fancy joining the Friday Night Skate we recommend you are able to complete the Blue route manoeuvres, you’re happy skating down hills and over bumpy surfaces.
What are you waiting for? Grab your skates and, preferably, elbow and knee pads, a helmet and go! For up to date information regarding the weekly route, you can register on the Friday Night Skate official website.
