The Victoria, one of the London’s favourite locals, is steeped in history, offering a wonderfully friendly atmosphere, and serving some of the best beer and freshly cooked food around.
The Victoria near Hyde Park was built in 1838, at the same time as the original Paddington Station. It was always slightly grander than the surrounding pubs and was frequented by many of the butlers from the large houses in the area. Legend has it that Queen Victoria once stopped here on her way to Paddington Station, after which the pub was named in her honour and appointed in it’s rather grand style. The most famous of all British authors, Charles Dickens, spent time here writing Our Mutual Friend and, over the years, many celebrities have been spotted enjoying a discreet drink, including Liam Gallagher, Claudio Ranieri, Ronnie Wood, Damien Hirst and Keira Knightley.
