There’s little doubt that going out for brunch is on the rise. Brunch - that casual, open and easy late breakfast/early lunch combo, with no need to reserve a table - is a great way to start the day, usually at the weekend.A quick message to friends to join you and relax at the venue of your choice. Whether or not you’re part of London’s brunching set, we thought we would share some restaurants that have extended their menus to include a tasty brunch in and around Paddington.
Our first pick is The Summerhouse, overlooking the Grand Union Canal, an elegant, waterside restaurant located at 60, Blomfield Road, W9. The Eggs Benedict (with Ham) is delicious, as is the Flat Mushrooms on Toast, served with Dijon Mustard and Crème Fraîche. For a drink, order one of their ‘Awakeners’ like Prosecco or the Nutty Smoothie, a filling blend of Greek Yoghurt, Walnuts and Apricots with Passionfruit syrup.
Kioskafe at 31, Norfolk Place is a good option if your weekend (or daily) ritual includes a great cup of coffee, a newspaper or glossy magazine. With a stock of over 150 international magazines and thousands of print-on-demand newspapers from across the globe, you can ‘unplug’ from devices and savour the printed pages of your choice. Enjoy a cup of Allpress Espresso and freshly made Cinnamon buns or try the traditional Bircher muesli piled high with yoghurt and fresh fruit.
French residents (and others) are certain to feel at home in Les Petits Gourmets. Located at 18, Formosa Street. This Parisian-run bistro established its reputation as a classic French steakhouse. They are now open at weekends for brunch, but at Les Petits Gourmet you’ll find the menu leans more to lunch dishes than the Breakfast part of ‘brunch’ - Toasted Pain Poilane with Avocado, Poached Egg and Spinach plus an option to add Salmon.
Beany Green, an Australian-inspired restaurant at Unit 6C, Sheldon Square offers an imaginative menu of healthy meals - a cold brunch speciality is Maple Granola with Fresh Berries, Chia Seeds and Flowers. On cold mornings, we recommend the Smoked Salmon Royale - poached free range eggs, Smoked Salmon with Rye and Avocado. If you’re with a party of hungry friends, it’s worth considering Beany Green’s Bottomless Brunch.
Drinks include a wide choice of teas, juices and smoothies, plus some hair-of-the-dog alcoholic drinks. Their coffee is brewed from an exclusive Beany Green Espresso Blend ‘roasted with love’ by The Roasting Party in Winchester.
For a hearty English breakfast in a hurry, try Mimo’s, an Italian café located a few minutes from Paddington’s mainline station. This no-frills establishment service is efficient, so you’ll have a plate heaped with toast, rashers of bacon, sausages, tomatoes, eggs and baked beans in no time.
