Kay & Co appointed joint sole lettings agent for the Howard de Walden Estate

New clients are always welcome, but maintaining the trust and confidence of existing clients is arguably even more important. So, we are delighted to announce that we have been appointed joint sole lettings agent for the Howard de Walden Estate, which is known as the jewel in the crown of Marylebone property.

We have acted for the Estate since 2000 and have consistently retained its business, but it is obviously gratifying to see our relationship taken to a new level in this way.

Dating back to the early eighteenth century, the Howard de Walden estate is the freehold owner of some 92 acres of Marylebone. The managing and leasing of properties across an area bounded by Marylebone High Street to the west, Portland Place to the east, Wigmore Street to the south and Marylebone Road to the north.

Like other great London estates, it has a colourful history, having been owned by the Dukes of Newcastle, then by the Dukes of Portland, before passing into the De Walden family in the late nineteenth century. The original builders of the estate would never have imagined that, in Harley Street, it would contain an address famous throughout the medical world. And they could certainly not have anticipated that, in the 21st century, people from across London would beat a path to the high-end boutiques on Marylebone High Street before heading to the ultra-cool Chiltern Firehouse restaurant nearby.

The impact of fashionable retailers on the Howard de Walden Estate has had a positive impact. In 2014, the value of the Estate, which comprises some 850 properties, ranging from studio flats to substantial townhouses, soared to an estimated £3.2 billion. Marylebone has never looked like a better bet for serious investors in London property, or a more attractive place to rent for both young professionals and families, who want to live near London’s great parks.

“We are delighted to announce this exclusive partnership with the Howard De Walden Estate,” explains Martin Bikhit, Managing Director of Kay & Co. “As specialists in prime London property, we have an extensive knowledge of both The Estate and Marylebone, having operated in the prime central London for 36 years.”

It is an exciting time to live in Marylebone. “The Estate is focused on ensuring all of its customers, whether existing or new residents to the area, receive excellent service throughout their journey with The Howard de Walden Estate,” says Tracey Hartley, Director of Residential at The Howard de Walden Estate.

“The agents we chose to partner with are carefully considered on the basis that they will be able to work with the Estate from first point of contact to deliver outstanding customer satisfaction. This is just one of the ways we achieve our goals and maintain Marylebone as a much sought-after area to live in the capital.”

But probably what we most like about the Estate, and why we are so proud of our deepening association, is its commitment to the local community. Its entire operation is based on Queen Anne Street, London W1 and is committed to a long-term investment strategy based on the four sectors which have historically shaped the estate: residential, office, medical and retail.
